The Rite Aid Foundation Donates to Seattle Children’s

The Rite Aid Foundation recently made a $250,000 donation to support nine Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic—including Seattle Children’s.

The funds will allow Seattle Children’s to direct the money to our COVID-19 Greatest Needs Fund.

Before there were any confirmed cases in the United States, Seattle Children’s anticipated the potential for an outbreak in our region. We proactively established an incident command center on January 22 to support advanced planning and to coordinate our actions. We also activated a Special Isolation Unit at our hospital to care for patients showing potential symptoms before there were even cases in the community.

Curbside screening reduces the spread of the virus. When a family comes to the Seattle Children’s Emergency Department, they are met at the entrance by a nurse who asks questions about their symptoms and possible exposure.

Anticipating needs and activating systemic responses help provide for the ongoing safety and care of our patients. The challenges created by COVID-19 are broad and constantly evolving. They will also be enduring. Support to the Greatest Needs Fund enables Seattle Children’s to be nimble – so we can quickly innovate and continue to deliver care safely and effectively. The Greatest Needs Fund is overseen by Seattle Children’s leadership team, which directs resources where they are needed most.

Seattle Children’s provides the safest environment for our patients and ensures our staff is in the safest equipment to care for them.

Matt DeCamara, Executive Director of The Rite Aid Foundation, explains, “These are extraordinary times, and the efforts of CMN Hospitals to support healthcare providers and affected patients is very important and impressive. Across the country, children’s hospitals have found themselves joining the frontlines of this pandemic, offering everything from needed beds to valuable medical equipment. As a longstanding partner, The Rite Aid Foundation is proud to stand with CMN Hospitals during a time when collaboration and partnership mean more than ever.”
