Seattle University Dance Marathon Raised More Than $148,000 for Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Over 200 students at Seattle University danced For The Kids treated at Seattle Children’s Hospital; raising more than $148,000. These funds will go to help support the hospital’s Uncompensated Care Fund and Strong Against Cancer research initiative.

During the event, students danced for 16 hours straight, celebrating SUDM’s 10th year as an organization. As the event was a birthday party for SUDM, there was no shortage of birthday cake, goody bags, and celebrating with kids who have been treated at Seattle Children’s. And, what would a birthday party be without the surprise? Alaska Airlines had a big gift for SUDM, a $10,000 matching donation which the passionate students met and surpassed by mid afternoon.

Part of the Miracle Network Dance Marathon Program since 2006, Seattle University Dance Marathon has helped sick and injured kids like Mason receive the best care available. In August 2014 on a Thursday evening, 4-year old Mason excitedly shared the news that he had “spiderman potty” aka blood in his urine.  A trip to the local urgent care that evening left his parents with no answers and by the next day he ended up being taken via ambulance to Seattle Children’s where Mason’s diagnosis of cancer began.

Two days after arriving at Seattle Children’s Mason had his right kidney removed had his port placed in his chest for chemotherapy.  By Friday Mason had his first chemo treatment and would continue chemo for the next six months. Today Mason is a healthy and energetic 6-year old who loves all sports and is never short on energy!!  His contagious smile and love for life continues to light up any room he walks into! He is an inspiration to all members of SUDM.

Panda Express, a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals partner, generously provided students food during their event. Learn more about how Panda Express is supporting the charitable need of children’s hospitals.

Thanks to all the students at Seattle University who participated in Seattle University Dance Marathon for Seattle Children’s Hospital.
