Seattle Children’s takes PRIDE in being an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader

Seattle Children’s is committed to caring for all patients and families and creating an inclusive workplace. Since 2014, Seattle Children’s has completed the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) Survey through the Human Rights Campaign. This survey highlights our commitment to promoting equitable and inclusive care for LGBTQ+ employees, patients and their families.

The Healthcare Equality Index strives to ensure LGBTQ+ people are protected and affirmed by healthcare providers and feel safe seeking services. This benchmarking tool is pushing more healthcare facilities to implement more inclusive policies supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

The HEI evaluates and scores healthcare facilities on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars:

  • Foundational Policies and Training in LGBTQ+ Patient-Centered Care;
  • LGBTQ+ Patient Services and Support;
  • Employee Benefits and Policies; and,
  • Patient and Community Engagement.

In 2022, Seattle Children’s earned the designation of “LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader,” receiving a score of 100 out of 100. Read the HEI report to learn more about how we received this designation.
